Today at 12.30pm the steepest street in the world Baldwin Street Dunedin, was a flood of red as 30,000 Cadbury Jaffas raced to the finish line raising a record amount of money for deserving charities.
Together, Parents Centre NZ Inc, The Malcam Charitable Trust and schools throughout Otago and Southland have raised $86700 with that figure expected to rise after money from today’s street sales has been counted.
The winning Cadbury Jaffa made it to the bottom of the street in 24 seconds and the winning Cadbury Jaffa number 21078 will receive a $1000 grocery voucher. Other winning Jaffa numbers were 28266, 27329, 1624, 9228 and prizes included a $750 petrol voucher, $500 Prezzy card, mobile phone and Cadbury chocolate hamper. Winning tickets were sold by Onewa and Taieri Parents Centres and at The Malcam Charitable Trust quiz night.
The curtain raiser to this year’s Cadbury Jaffa Race was the release of six famous Auckland faces designed by children from Taieri Parents Centre. Leader of the Opposition Phil Goff won the race ahead of other competitors, John Key, Jonah Lomu, Rachel Hunter, Paul Henry and Howard Dobson.
