Passengers on board this year’s Cadbury Crunchie Train will be responsible for ensuring the Cadbury Crunchie treasure is returned safely to the factory in Dunedin.
On Monday 13 July, the Taieri Gorge Railway Cadbury Crunchie Train will depart the Dunedin Railway Station to search for a stolen treasure chest belonging to Cadbury Ltd. The treasure was reported stolen and it is believed thieves have hidden the treasure somewhere between Dunedin and Middlemarch.
All those travelling on the train will be charged with the responsibility of ensuring the treasure is retrieved and safely returned to the Cadbury factory.
Cadbury staff have been warned that the bandits are aware of the plans in place to retrieve the treasure. Cadbury events coordinator Lee-Anne Anderson said “We have reason to believe the thieves are not going to let us reclaim the treasure easily, I ask everyone on board to keep an eye out for anyone acting suspiciously and advise train staff immediately of any unusual behaviour”.
Tickets for the Cadbury Crunchie Train are selling fast but there are still some seats available. Adult tickets are $38 with one child free of charge and extra children $13 each. Tickets are available from Taieri Gorge Railway 03 4774449.
