Cadbury Jaffas set to race, rattle and roll in Dunedin

A change of day, increased ticket sales, heaps of new street entertainment, celebrities and some other surprises will make the Cadbury Jaffa Race a fitting finale for what is set to be a week of chocolate fun and excitement at the 2009 Dunedin Cadbury Chocolate Carnival.

In true ‘race day’ style there will be plenty of entertainment from 11am with street performers, face painting, and food stalls on hand. The Cadbury Jaffas will make their high speed journey down the steepest street in the world, Baldwin Street, Dunedin, at 12.30pm.

“The Cadbury Jaffa Race is an event not to be missed. It’s a truly unique experience watching and listening to 30,000 Cadbury Jaffas roaring down the steepest street in the world with all the money raised going to charity. We are thrilled to be part of such an iconic activity and hope that the thousands of people that turn out on the day enjoy that experience” says Cadbury event coordinator Lee-Anne Anderson.

This will be the eighth time Cadbury Jaffas have been released from the top of Baldwin Street, and during that time over $300,000 has been raised for charities including Canteen, Dunedin Kindergarten Association, The Malcam Charitable Trust, Parents Centres NZ Inc., and The Otago Community Hospice.

Each of the 30,000 Cadbury Jaffas are hand numbered and tickets are sold to raise money for this year’s beneficiaries; Parents Centres NZ Inc, The Malcam Charitable Trust and schools in the Otago and Southland region.

Malcolm Cameron from The Malcam Charitable Trust said: “Co-ordinating the Cadbury Jaffa Race is a unique opportunity. We are honoured to be a part of it again this year, and are delighted to be working with the Parents Centre in raising funds to help our future generations.”

“Parents Centres New Zealand Inc is again delighted to support the efforts of Taieri Parents Centre with the great Cadbury Jaffa Race for 2009. The proceeds will be supporting not only Taieri Parents Centre but also the 50 Parent Centres nationwide.  Centres throughout the country will be participating in the Cadbury Jaffa race with the selling of tickets and also running some fun initiatives within their own communities” said Joan Hay, Volunteer Services Manager.
